The Hague, the ow so beautiful city behind the dunes is a sought after and pleasant city to live in. Not only because I have lived here for more than 20 years, but also because of its beautiful dunes, its international reputation as the city of peace and justice, the city where our democracy is based and its many cosy squares!
The Hague is also definitely in demand because of the “affordability” of houses for sale. Wait a minute……what are you saying? The Hague affordable? NO WAY!!!
YES! Compared to the surrounding historic (student) cities like Leiden/Delft and the other large cities in the Randstad, the prices per square meter are comparatively lower. Likewise, compared to other large cities in the Randstad. I increasingly assist starters from the Amsterdam area who want to buy their first home in The Hague. Of course, I hope that this will not eventually push up prices! For the time being, that is not yet the case.
Of course, there are also stately neighborhoods in The Hague such as the Statenkwartier and/or the Benoordenhout where you have to dig deep into your pockets, but there are certainly plenty of other nice neighborhoods where in the current market you have plenty of choice in everyone’s budget category
As a real estate agent but also certainly as a Hagenaar, I know The Hague neighborhoods like the back of my hand.
The Hague often makes the news as one of the big cities in the Randstad. Sometimes positive and sometimes less so. Yet The Hague is generally a friendly (living and working) city. I even call it village-like. A “village town” with something for everyone!
There are relatively many neighborhoods where you do not feel like you are living in a big city. This is partly due to The Hague’s urban architecture. Many a famous architect has interfered with the design of The Hague neighborhoods in the past. From Hertzberger to van Eyck. Often low-rise and in many neighborhoods beautiful porch houses with striking ornaments. Districts like Zeeheldenkwartier, Regentessekwartier, Statenkwartier and the neighborhoods around them often even enjoy the status of “municipal protected cityscape”.
Buying a home in The Hague is well suited to a variety of target groups both in terms of types of homes and price range. The city’s location by the sea is special with plenty of recreational opportunities. There are post-war neighborhoods with cheaper housing as in some parts of the Escamp district. The Hague also has one of the larger
VINEX neighborhoods of the Netherlands with diverse types of new homes; the “Wateringse Veld” neighborhood. If you want to live close to the beach you can do so in approachable Kijkduin, the luxurious Vogelwijk or the more touristy Scheveningen. If you want more peace and greenery on the outskirts of the city then the sought-after (villa) homes on the Madestein recreation area are recommended, close to the Westland!
Do you like urban living? Then you can do so, for example, in one of the residential towers in the heart of the city with beautiful views. After all, the area around Central Station, Hollandsspoor Station and The Hague University of Applied Sciences are good options for people who want and need to use public transport daily.
Doing business with real estate agents is generally pleasant in The Hague. Contrary to stories about real estate agents and brokerage firms acting like “Cowboys” in cities like Amsterdam and Utrecht, in The Hague it is not that bad. Even as an individual without a buying agent, you’ll get by reasonably well! But wait a minute…..why go to all that trouble when we at VK Makelaars can provide targeted assistance AND relieve you of worries throughout the entire purchase process of your dream home?
