Golden tip for succeeding in the housing market

by | Jan 22, 2026 | Purchase realtor

What probably comes across as very irritating, but which I’ll just blurt out anyway: I don’t have much of a problem buying homes for clients. It’s my job as a buying agent, of course, but apart from that, I think I’ve really cracked the code after all these years. And if the client gives me the confidence, I can buy a suitable property for them pretty damn quick.

Fortunately, then, I am also very cheap, right?
No – definitely not. But that’s because at the bottom of the line, I’ve always paid myself back handsomely for the client. In fact, often many times over. That’s the advantage of being an extremely driven broker who has cracked the brokerage code.

But quite frankly: this magic doesn’t work with clients who go completely against my advice or don’t dare to take any decisions. Fortunately, in general things just go really well.

By the way, I am not writing this blog to extol myself. That is not my intention. I am writing this because I like to help people – even if they are not looking for a home with the help of VK Realtors. Long live the internet. I regularly share golden tips & tricks from the secret ‘buying code’ here, and today I want to share another one. One that until recently I wasn’t even aware existed.

And that is the following.

We always tell our customers that we will go through fire for them. And we do – that’s not an empty promise. But fair is fair: every real estate agent says that to their clients. So yeah … what’s new?

In fact, there is something else. A secret ingredient that really works as a turbo booster. And that is: genuine personal motivation.

Of course, a buying agent is motivated to help his client get a home quickly and well. But let’s face it: the average buying agent is also just thinking about his or her wallet.

If you have to compete with buying agents who are purely focused on money, you don’t have a unique advantage. That unique advantage only arises when your buying agent has another, deeper motivation to succeed.

And that motivation is often a personal story from the home seeker – from you – that really touches the buying agent. Inside.

Some real examples:

  • A client with a relationship breakup and children, who is totally unhappy and blossoms like a goddess at every thought that she no longer has to live in the same house with her ex.
  • A tough guy who has only seen his family once every three months for five years because they live far away – and where a successful purchase means the family is finally reunited.
  • A mentally disabled woman who wants to leave a housing group with screeching tires and live independently, around the corner from her family.
  • A very sweet family that has fled from a dictatorial terrorist country and has lived in the Netherlands for many years and now wants to make the move to their own house to build a new life from there.
  • And many more such stories.

These are exactly the situations in which I found myself running even harder. To dig even deeper. And simply did not take no for an answer to my offer.
In some cases this was literally the case: I even fought through a rejection until I won the house.

The golden tip of the day

Find a buying agent who is truly sensitive to your personal story. Someone who understands why you need to succeed in buying a home. Select a buying agent with whom you can see and feel that your story really touches him or her.

If you have genuine confidence that this person will go through fire for you without limits – not because you have to, but because he or she really wants to help you – then you have found your buying agent.

Go get it!
