Your home may be one of those unique cases where you have an energy label with one letter as well as an energy index with a completely different letter.

For example, you have energy label B on your house, but you also have and energy index with a score A.

How on earth is that possible and what can you do about it?

Cause of 2 different energy certificates/labels

The difference is because between Jan. 1, 2015, and March 29, 2018, the letter label was not determined according to a table, but according to the so-called “funnel method. That is, the Energy Index input was put through a funnel where the relevant data were

were filtered out of it. This produced a letter label that did not directly relate to the

Energy Index. In those days, one home with a certain Energy Index could be another

letter label than a home with the exact same Energy Index. This was a deliberate

policy choice: here, then, there was certainly no defect. However, as of March 29, 2018, the link between the Energy Index and the letter label according to the table has been restored. From then on there was a direct relationship again.

Which energy label is the real label?

If you have 2 different energy labels/energy certificates then only one of them is really leading. And that is the label is registered on the website www.ep-online.nl. On ep-online.co.uk, enter the property’s zip code followed by a space and then the house number. If you then search, the label that is then displayed is the official energy label and ONLY this label. All other labels therefore do not matter.

What can I do to restore my energy label to the correct label later?

It is possible to have an energy label from the funnel method period linked according to the table so that the energy label in EP-Online gets the corresponding letter label. The building owner should make a request in that case. RVO.nl has created an instruction of exactly how to make this link. Because the urls on the government website can change, we have intentionally not listed a url in this article. Do a quick Google search yourself for the following search term “How can I link my energy label letter to the Energy Index (EI)?“. You should then find a link at the top of the search results to the correct page on RVO.nl with the appropriate instruction.
